Autumn in Killington is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Centrally located in the Green Mountains, the area is filled with opportunities to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, from hiking and mountain biking to leaf-peeping road trips, apple picking, and even golfing; you'll be minutes away from it all when you stay at Highridge Condos. Here are some of our favorite spots to explore:
Trails
Thundering Falls: At less than a mile, this trail offers an easy walk for visitors and locals alike. The well-maintained boardwalk crosses over the Ottauquechee River before ascending to the falls viewing platform, where hikers are met with the 6th tallest waterfall in Vermont.
Deer Leap Trail: At about 2 miles in-and-out, this trail is a moderately challenging climb that takes about an hour to complete and is a popular area for birding and exploring. We love this trail for the amazing views of the leaves on Pico and Killington you'll get at the end.
Mount Killington Trail: This is the most challenging trail on our list, clocking in at 7.2 miles. If you're looking to backpack or camp, we highly recommend making a day (or two) out of it.
Mountain Biking
Killington Bike Park: With 30 miles of trails, multiple lifts, and an experience level for everyone from beginner to expert, it's easy to see why Killington Bike Park consistently ranks as one of the top parks in the Northeast Region. Offering gravity and long-trail riding, you'll see some of the most incredible natural and man-made features in the area.
Green Mountain Trails: Located about 8 miles from Killington, Green Mountain Trails offers 25 miles of exquisite trails that take you over mountain streams and valleys and deliver exquisite panoramic views of the changing leaves.
Leaf Peeping and Apple Picking
For a leisurely activity that gives you an exceptional vantage point of the changing leaves, take the K-1 Gondola Ride to the second-highest point in Vermont! This 1.25-mile ascent gives you a birds-eye view of the stunning colors, and with so much to do at the summit, it's a great way to spend a day outdoors on your fall vacation.
Road trip to Woodstock: Take a dreamy 30-minute drive through winding, tree-lined roads from Killington to Woodstock and explore the artisan shops, beautiful architecture, and Instagrammable scenery.
Mendon Mountain Orchards: Explore the beautiful 24-acre farm and pick delicious Vermont apples at Mendon Mountain Orchard. Choose from several varieties, and be sure to visit the on-site bakery for scrumptious homemade pies and turnovers.
